Funny huh ? With a powerfull USB-power the Dragon doesn't fail, but using a not-so-powerfull one, it kills itself. So in the end the boost-regulator will blow itself when the USB-power is not powerfull enough. Which results in an increased current consumption when the USB-voltage is low, which results in more current to get that boosted output the increased current lets the incoming voltage even drop further. But The Board Designer forgot to implement an undervoltage lockout. Using a boost regulator allowed the designer to meet the usb "must " requirement. Minimum DC voltage at peripheral connected to BusPowered hub 4.150V Minimum DC voltage at host connector 4.65V Lots of parts on the Dragon are specified for operating on 4.5-5.5V. Of course Atmel didn't put that component in to make the Dragon fail: there MUST be a good reason for it. To repair:Ī) Remove burned IC TPS61020DRCRG4 from PCB completely.

In case of EMI chip TPS61020DRCRG4 marked with white restangle at the first picture burns out.ĭamaged AVRDRAGON can be repaired without any functionality loss. The modification can be applied to PCBs A.06.Cīrief translation: there is a bug in voltage stabilization circuit design.

#ATMEL DRAGON BOARD HOW TO#
It took me few mins to got the bugg and here itz wht i found n tips how to fix it. And i ddnt took much time understand dat my damn sexy AVR Dragon board is dead.īut we all have our best friend i.e "Google". suddenly i feel a IC got too Hot whn i picked it up. I plug the USB, next i discovered the dual power led goes red den green and LED Off!!!!! This was Somthing very new to me since i ever use the borad. But today is a different day, itz India 1st world cup 2011 match on TV and i 4got to connect the Vcc n GND jumper wires. I regularly use dis borad for debugging n unlock the Atmega serise MCUs (if you want to know more about AVR Dragon board den open AVR studio, hit HELP from toolbar Help>AVR Tool User Guide>AVR DRAGON image). Luckly i hv the AVR Dragon debugging Board from Atmel which is damn sexy on looks.

So today when i was working on my Image processing Project, i got my Atmega328P ( 32kb version of Atmega8) locked, mean fuse bit wrongly set n SPi got disabled.
